BIDE came into existence in the year 1996 under the Patronage & guidance of Prof. Baqai.

Following are the salient features of BIDE:

Institute is the first speciality oriented facility of the country.
Institute is running first Diabetes Foot Clinic besides outpatient & in-patient facilities.
Introduction of Dietetic & Education department in the management of Diabetic patient by the BIDE team was a new concept for the first time.
24 hour help-line facility provided by the institute for registered patients & health givers.
Diploma in Diabetology is the first postgraduate Diploma in Diabetes for medical graduates started in Pakistan in 1996.
Diploma in Diabetes Education is the first University-based Diploma for Diabetes educators in the country.
