• The first ever course of its kind in Pakistan
• During the first three months, intensive teaching and practical training at BIDE
• Followed by an internship of nine months duration at the diabetes center/clinic of referring physician.
• The curriculum of the course is based on “International curriculum for Diabetes Health Professional Education” designed by international diabetes Federation (IDF)
• After completing this course, the trained educator would be capable to conduct one to one or group educational sessions in a diabetes unit/clinic under the supervision of a diabetologist or a consultant.

The diploma program includes two didactic courses. Each course has three units each and is of 6 weeks duration. At the end of each unit an assessment will be made.

Course - 1: Basics of diabetes education

• Unit 1 - Importance of diabetes education.
• Unit 2 - Understanding diabetes and its management.
• Unit 3 - Role Of diet and exercise in diabetes management.

Course 2: Life style changes for the management of diabetes.

• Unit 1 - Behavior modification.
• Unit 2 - Management of diabetes in specific cases.
• Unit 3 - Dietary modifications.
